PREMISE

PREMISE

Two decades ago, massive rifts appeared in the stratosphere all across the world. These glowing, roiling fissures in the sky were visible from just about everywhere on Earth and put out a form of energy that had never been recorded before. Attempts to make sense of these anomalies were largely unsuccessful and, while most came to believe that they were doorways to another dimension of space or time, those that were brave enough to cross through never returned and were never heard from again.

There seemed to be no choice but to live with them.

In the years since the appearance of the rifts, a small percentage of living things have been changed by their presence, developing strange features and even stranger abilities. This includes humans, animals, and even plants. Collectively, those changed by the rifts are known as Liminals. While this has left the world on the edge of chaos, particularly in areas where otherworldly flora and fauna are running rampant (known as Riftlands), human Liminals have been met with different responses in different parts of the world. In the United States, there is registration, mandatory boarding schools, and incentivized enrollment into the federally-funded IRIS (Interdimensional Research and Integration Service) Program, which stations them where their abilities can do some good. Or, at least, be kept away from the vulnerable public.

Enodia Station is a sci-fi super-powers game that follows the residents of an IRIS-run research station in the midst of a dense and ever-changing Riftland in Vermont.

RECENTLY...

Enodia Station has been closed for the last three months, following a still-unexplained event. In February of 2023, a pulse of energy from somewhere within the nearby forest knocked out all electronic devices and rendered all residents of the Station unconscious. Upon waking, many residents were disoriented and found it difficult to understand what was happening or to communicate. Some experienced difficulty accessing or (worse) controlling their powers. While there were no casualties and the residents recovered within hours, it was a disastrous day. A quick investigation was unable to reveal the cause and the Station was ultimately closed while repairs were made.

But the time has finally come to return to the Station and resume work and life as normal. The mystery of what caused the pulse remains on the minds of many, though, particularly with many residents now claiming to recall that something strange happened right before the pulse. Melodic, cacophonous sounds. Or a flare of light. Or a sharp mental throb. Nobody can quite agree. Hopefully, the answers will reveal themselves with time.

Because the incident prompted many residents not to return at all, there are many new faces as well. Make them feel welcome, won't you?

This is where the game begins.
