ENODIA STATION

ENODIA STATION

Enodia Station was built five years ago, shortly after the destruction of Burlington and the subsequent abandonment of many nearby towns as the Riftlands flourished and overtook the region. The area was no longer suited for civilians, but it had become an ideal location for a research station. With IRIS' resources behind it, the Station was built quickly and with no expenses spared. All of the architecture is modern and all of technology is advanced, particularly the security system. This includes the massive, dome-like forcefield which encases the entirety of the grounds.

The forcefield is transparent but visible through subtle pulses of energy and an iridescent shimmer. If anything strikes the forcefield, it becomes visible at the point of impact and briefly reveals a hexagonal pattern of shifting colors. To enter or leave the Station, one must visit the front gate, which is the only break in the forcefield. While the behavior of the forcefield can be adjusted, it typically allows liquids and gases to pass through it while blocking out everything else. This means that the effects of weather and seasonal changes can still be felt inside the Station.

RESEARCH BUILDING

The Research Building is the heart of Enodia Station, where skilled experts and those gifted with analytical powers conduct research on the plethora of changes brought into the world by the rifts. Only those in the Research Division and the Security Division have access to move freely throughout this building. Everyone else can only get as far as the lobby or the delivery bay (often used by the Explorer Division to deliver material collected from or data recorded in the Riftlands) unless granted temporary access to other areas.

A three-story building with a severe and sterile interior, the Research Building houses a number of laboratories, offices, meeting rooms, and secure storage areas for all manner of peculiar samples and specimens. It also has an extensive basement that can only be accessed by the Research Director and the Security Director or with access granted by said directors.

MEDICAL BUILDING

The Medical Building is where residents of the Station can seek out care for injuries, illness, mental health struggles, and anything else relating to their overall well-being. Like the Research Building, access throughout this building is typically limited to the Medical Division and Security Division. Everyone else can access the lobby but must be granted access to go elsewhere. Unlike the Research Building, everyone must visit this location at least twice a year: once for a physical evaluation and once for a psychological evaluation. The Station life can be difficult and IRIS wants to ensure that everyone is doing well!

The Medical Building is a three-story structure broken into several distinct areas. The lobby is open with large windows, a broad check-in desk where several receptionists direct patients, and an abundance of seating. The first floor also contains the emergency department, urgent care, and surgical unit. The second floor contains hospital rooms for recovering patients as well as laboratories, the pharmacy, and physical therapy spaces. The third floor contains various other providers like general practitioners, specialists (from otolaryngologists to neurologists), and psychiatrists.

For whatever reason, the Station has had trouble keeping a dentist on staff, so residents have to visit a nearby town for that. Sorry for the inconvenience!

ADMINISTRATION BUILDING

The Administration Building is a three-story office that's predominantly used by the Security Division, the Explorer Division, and some members of the Operations Division. It also houses the private offices of each division's director. Each division uses this building to hold meetings, coordinate schedules, write up reports, and otherwise handle the parts of their jobs that aren't done elsewhere in Station or out in the field. While more senior or high ranking members of the divisions may have their own office, most use unassigned workstations whenever needed. The building features a number of conference rooms of various sizes and an open-office floorplan. While not enforced, Security typically works on the third floor, Explorers typically work on the second floor, and Operations typically works on the first floor.

While most agree that this is the most boring place in the Station to be, the break rooms are always well-stocked by an unknown benefactor. So who's really winning here?

COMMERCIAL CENTER

The Commercial Center is a modest one-story building where residents can purchase various goods and services. It seems to have been designed to mimic a quaint outdoor market with its skylights and superficially rustic interior and broad singular walkway that allows stores to set up displays out in front during their open hours.

The largest of the stores is the commissary -- a general store full of competitively-priced essentials like food, hygeine products, cleaning products, and the like. Given its necessity, this store is run entirely and directly by IRIS. A post office where residents can pick up or send out packages can also be found inside the commissary. The other businesses were all submitted by potential residents (who became residents once their businesses were accepted) and run the gamut from restaurants to salons to specialty shops. There's a stationery shop that's surprisingly popular.

(Players may create businesses for the Commercial Center if their character owns or works in a business. Just include this information in your application. All characters that work in the Commercial Center are part of the Operations Division.)

  • RECREATION CENTER

The Recreation Center is a two-story building packed to the brim with resources designed to foster community among the residents. The interior has a warm, industrial-inspired style. Most of the building is dedicated to large spaces that can be used by residents for any activities they choose. These spaces are often booked up with instructional classes, clubs, arts & crafts, parties, cultural or religious meetings, and even support groups. Beyond these adaptable community spaces, the Recreation Center also houses a café, a small theatre with one screen, an extensive game room, and a library.

The Hall, a performing space with an attached art gallery, is also located here, operated by MC Flores.

    Cake Decorating
    Hypatia Stone
    Murder Mystery Parties

    TRAINING BUILDING

The Training Building stands far from where the others are clustered. This is for practical reasons. The first floor of the building is just a glorified gym with an abundance of top of the line equipment, a pool, a track, and courts for various indoor sports. The basement, however, is something else entirely.

The basement is designed for Liminals to train with their powers. The rooms of the basement are large and each is designed to be able to withstand the full force of raging fires, psionic blasts, super strength, and all the rest. So far, no damage has ever made it through these defenses and caused a problem...but better safe than sorry. The training rooms in the basement are equipped with a number of different adaptive obstacle courses and animated targets (both of which have impressively clever AI) to challenge those looking to hone their powers. These more advanced training tools can be set to a difficulty level (0-10) and are maintained by mechanics and programmers from the Operations Division; this is a constant uphill battle and occasionally rooms must be closed for repairs.

    RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

Home Sweet Home. At the end of the day, all residents of the Station can return to their private (or not-so-private) quarters in the Residential Building. This housing is free and that is seen as one of the major perks to living in the Station, allowing residents to squirrel away almost all of their earnings for the future (or just spend lavishly if that's more their speed). The Residential Building is maintained by certain members of the Operations Division.

The building itself is four stories and has a curved, elongated shape reminiscent of a crescent moon. The roof is accessible to the residents and is occasionally used for social functions; for this reason, outdoor seating and grills are left there during most times of the year. There are three standard floorplans available to residents: a one-bedroom, a two-bedroom, and a three-bedroom. Residents can only live alone if they are in a one-bedroom, otherwise they will have roommates. Each residence contains at least one bathroom, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, a balcony patio, and various storage spaces. Residents have the option of taking their residences fully furnished (with admittedly dull decor) or decorating themselves.

Upon accepting a position at the Station, all residents fill out a document identifying their preferences and needs for housing. Typically, these documents are taken seriously and readily accomodated, but mistakes do happen every so often.

Currently, common pets like cats, dogs, birds, rodents, and reptiles are allowed in the Residential Building so long as they are properly cared for by residents and are not disruptive to the community. Exotic pets and any pets that have developed Liminal abilities are not permitted.

A list of where residents reside in the building can be found here.

    THE GROUNDS

The grounds that make up the rest of the Station are scenic and spread several miles from its center. This is by design and creates ample space for the residents. There are sizeable gardens and orchards used to bolster food supplies with fresh produce. There is also a man-made lake and an abundance of greenery interwoven with paths, all of which is maintained by the Operations Division. This helps to make the residents feel a bit less like they're living in a bubble...even if they are still living in a bubble.

There's only one road for vehicles to move through the Station. This road leads directly from the entrance gate to an underground parking structure beneath the Commercial Center. This is used both by residential vehicles (which may be stored at the Station for a modest fee) and Station-owned vehicles. Vehicles owned by IRIS are used to keep the Station stocked with supplies, transport residents, or (on rare occasions) explore certain parts of the Riftlands.
